Looking for intructions to DIY front bumper removal. I removed the 4 - 8mm bolts on the bottom of the bumper 2 per side in front of the wheels. I also removed the plastic pins holding the bumper to to the front eng skirt.
I'm looking for the two 8mm bolts, one in each wheel well.
I can see four 8mm bolts, two in each wheel well and 2 plastic pins, one in each wheel well. Do I need to remove all of these? Is this the difference from the DIY Coupe instructions online and my 4 dr sedan?
I also loosened the two torx bolts from under the front bumper lip, through the slots.
I think I need to slide the wheel well lining outside the bumper edges seperating the lining from the bumper at both wheel wells.
Now if I can just figure out either which two 8mm wheel well bolts to remove or do I also pull the plastic pin clips. Guess I can remove all the bolts and pins I can find for now, remove the bumber and see which ones actually didn't need to be removed but if you can help me out I would appreciate it.
Do I need help removing the bumper myself because of the fog lights?
Your responses are appreciated. Thank you! [pray]

Hey, why are you removing the bumper? The fog lights pop out. You can then unhook the electricity plug. The Bentley manual walks you through all this. I could take a look at mine if you're in a pinch. But what are you trying to do?

It's way past time to replace my (Dinan CAI) filter and sock. I must remove the bumper to get at the filter. Thanks for your support.
None of the 8mm bolts in the wheel wells connect directly to the bumper, only to the plastic wheel well liner.
Must I remove the fog lights before pulling on the bumper, or can they be disconnected after I start sliding the bumper off? [?|]

My Bentley goes as far as 2001. But it says you should only slide the bumper forward only a few inches and disconnect....(1) electrical harness for fogs (2) electrical harness for connector at signal horn (3) electrical harness connectors at outside temperature sensor...then slide the bumper straight off the side brackets.

This says there are four bumper conver retaining scres. Then they have 2 screws retaining the bumper br to impact absorbers on the left and right side. Nothing is attached through the wheel well.

Don't know if this helps.

What a crock, nothing but BS! I have a Dinan CAI with a K&N air filter and Dinan sock. Everything I've been told and read said that I had to remove the front bumper to get at the air filter for maintenance. Well let me tell you, NO, it doesn't have to be that way, you can just remove the drivers side wheel well shroud, turn the wheels all the way to the left and you have plenty of room and access to remove and replace the air filter. Maybe 20min tops versus 2 hours or more tinkering with the bumper, fog lights and temp sensor. Ok, you still need to disconnect the air temp sensor but that's it. I guess the deal is Dinan auth shops say you must remove the bumper for two reasons.
1. It keeps most people from attempting to DIY.
2. Then they get to charge you for the extra labor involved removing and replacing the front bumper, fog lights, and air temp sensor, not to mention the cost of another filter and sock.
3. The Dinan CAI uses a K&N filter element, so if you’re careful after cleaning yours and not to generous with oiling the filter after cleaning, you could reuse the filter over and over again. (The nylon sock reads Warning, do not clean the air filter because of possible damage to the O2 sensor, hence the need to being frugal at re-oiling the filter) The nylon sock should be cleaned and reused, I could see some time down the road needing to replace the sock, but not the filter, ever! You could go without the sock but I think the protection it provides keeping your intake from drinking water very important. My 2 cents on changing your CAI filter & sock.

Ha! Why would you ruin a perfect Ultimate Driving Machine with all that crap. If re-usable engine filters were the way to go by cleaning them with that oily crap and slapping the name K&N on it, then I'm sure BMW would've jumped on the band waggon a long time ago. They're probably right about the cleaning stuff flying off and onto the oxygen sensor.

I joke though...I know you get some increased hp and all. But I'm just wondering at what cost. I've heard those K&N deals are great, but if not kept clean regularly then you're letting all sorts of contaminants into your engine. In my book, what makes the U.D.M. is a balance between all the factors: performance, engineering, reliability, maintenance, etc. Paper filts are fine. Even the cheapest ones perform well, if you change them often.
