I plan to purchase 04 330ci ZHP or 330i ZHP in couple of months, I guess the speeding is about the same, but I've heard that there will be SMG for 04 330ci ZHP. Does anyone knows abut 0-60mph for 330i ZHP?? 5.8 for manual, 6.2 for auto??
Hey there. I think we have concluded on this forum that the SMG transmission for the regular 3-series (excluding the M3) and Z4 are definitely not worth it as it is not as good as the SMG II available for the M3. Also, SMG/SMG II and the 6-speed manual usually have the same 0-60 times, so a good guess is something like 5.9 or 6.0 seconds.
I wouldn't suggest the SMG on a non-M3. It's gotten absolutely trashed by every magazine article I've read (latest being the new Motortrend). It's basically got all the negatives of auto and manual trannys and none of the positives.
Speed should be very similar since the sedan and coupe don't have too many significant differences.

I'm very interested in this, codex57. What magazine articles have you seen? I know about the article in Bimmer "Slower-than Manual Gearbox", and I'm going to look for the Motor Trend you mention. Are there any others?
I think I read one or two more. Can't remember which ones they are exactly. I remember I only picked up the Bimmer article to kind of confirm what I already read since I figure a magazine called Bimmer is likely to praise a BMW technology if at all possible. The Motor Trend issue the Feb. 04 one.
smg ii may pull same speed as manual, but under one cavet: that's when you have perfect shifts in the manual. smg ii at it's most aggressive mode will do a 80ms shift, which best drivers in the world will pull on their best day. (from what i hear anyway)
so chances are for everyday drivers smg ii will be faster, but i still like to shift for myself.
i think you should just go for manual even if smg si there. dont worry about a few tenths of a second, ur not on a racetrack. and 4dr/2dr, whichever suits u best, id get coupe bc the styling
I don't think the 330 ZHP is getting the SMG II. It should be getting the regular SMG that's on the Z4 and the regular 3 series cars. The SMG II gets good reviews, the regular SMG is the one that gets trashed.
