I found a 1998 pdf file on the BMW Nav system and it says you can only operate the Nav system (make inputs) when the car is stopped. Is that still the case with their current Nav system in the 3 Series cars? Thanks.

In the 2004 models, you can operate the Nav while the car is in motion. I usually let the passenger take care of this to avoid accidents.

That's good news, thanks. I'll be that passenger operating the nav when the car arrives in late April because my wife claims no interest in it. I hope it can locate the nearest Starbucks and/or Nordstroms otherwise she will continue to think it's a total waste of money. Thanks again.

This is my first car with a Nav and from now on, I will always get cars with Nav. I use it all the time to find restaurants, banks, hotels, etc. Finding a Starbucks should not be a problem. Just learn how to use it before you show your wife how it works. It would suck if you were trying to show her how it works and you yourself are not sure how to work the menus.

I'm sure she will grow to love the Nav as my wife did. She too was reluctant to pay for it in the Bimmer but now, she wants one in her car.
