Just got my 04 pp and i love it. However, i have noticed that when i engage the clutch and shift from 1st to 2nd i hear a noise. Its hard to describe but it kinda of sounds like loud clicking. Has anybody had this b4. I talked to my sales men and he said its completly normal for a new manual transmission. Is he right? If so what is the sound and will it go away as i drive the car more. thanks for the advice........................ [thumb]

I can hear the sound when the windows are closed. Its not that loud but i am a freak about my car if it doesnt sound perfect than i wanna know why. The sound can not be heard when i accelerate hard. I guess the engine is too loud. What is the sound i am hearing? Is it the fly wheel?

I just picked up my 04 PP this past Saturday and I'm noticing that the shift is a lot tighter and "crunchier" than I'm used to. I tend to hear a noise a feel a bit of a crunch when every I shift, but especially in the "top" of the patter - 1, 3, 5. No noise from the transmission, I'm assuming that the shorter PP shift is just going to be different than my 99 323's and I'll get used to it.

it just maybe an issue w/ the pp.. but it may need to be broken in..

mine actually refused to shift into a gear a time or two.. (into first from a stand still..) not the first gear lock out when

then when i was in the dealership, the mechanic there told me that the shifter was indeed a bit stiff, and if the problem persisted, they'd replace it, but if not they'll check it out again at my next oil check..

odm33, is this your first manual? cuz when you shift, mechanical clicking noise is present. and you just might not be used to it.

I can tell you one thing, though. It may be the flywheel. See, transmissions make noise (especially the flywheel) as they work, it's no big deal. But this noise scares a lot of people, so what manufacturers do is, they add weight to the flywheel and make it bulkier so that it pretty much "deadens" the noises that come from the transmission...that's why if you've ever looked around for aftermarket flywheels for your car, it is easy to find an aftermarket flywheel that weighs like half as much as your stock flywheel. It saves weight and improves engine response, but when engaging the gears, you will hear transmission noises and most people are not comfortable with that, even though they are completely normal.
My point is that perhaps BMW wanted to use a lighter flywheel on the 330i Performance Package, so they sacrificed a bit of the sound-deadening materials for less weight and quicker engine response....just a thought.

that coudl very well be, i say as long as the noise is constant, i have no complaints.. besides, goto any dealer, and start putting the gears in and out, and you'll def hear clicking noises.. (i wonder how long before my "i'm super anal about everything in my car" phase is over [:D]
