06' Engine Oil Service Light - Question

Hi Everyone, [driving2]

I have a 2006 BMW 325i car that is approximately 8 months old (still very new) and recently i've been having the Engine Oil Service Light come on everyday. I am a bit surprised because, usually the maintenance for these cars require a hugh amount of driving, but my current mileage for this car is around 7000-8000 miles.

This service light came up because it's saying that my engine oil level is low. Is that normal? One more thing that i've noticed is that there's this puddle of water/oil like left on bottom of the area that i've parked at.

I would like to get a 2nd opinion here, rather than just waiting to hear what the BMW Service Center will say. I will be going to the Service Center tomorrow, i hope that there's nothing serious with the car. I love this car, and it'll break my heart if this 2006 model is starting to have problems at a very early stage.

Thank you. [wave]

Your oil level is VERY important. Oil is the lifeblood of the engine. No oil means a ruined engine. Your BMW should be under warranty so they should take a look at it, especially if it is leaking. Your oil and filter should be changed every 7000 miles or so.

7000?

If im not mistaken, isnt the average oil change for these bimmers like every 15,000 or so? my old 325 (E46) was changed for the first time like around 20,000. And the dealer didnt say anything wrong with that interval.

No you should change your oil at around each 7-8k. The Oil Service light will come on for that like clockwork(mine is on now and i plan on doing it this week).

@Lil Tinnie: are you sure that the light says "low oil". If i am not mistaken the light should say "oil service"(oil service, inspection I and inspection II are the standard warnings lights on the dash in that area) and if you have "low oil" your board computer would tell you that in a completely separate window.....
Regardless you can take it to the dealer for free maintenance anyway so dont worry to much...i am reasonably sure that it isnt anything that will cause your car not to be your car long into the distant future.....ciao!

That is what I thought too. I am pretty sure the official oil change interval is 15,000miles.

Tinnie, you would be correct about the 06' models having problems already. There were other threads on this issue. Your most likely not low on oil and do not need an oil change yet, and I would definatly put my money on the sensor being faulty that reads the oil level. Be sure to take it to the dealer asap.

The I6 sucks up oil sometimes. My friend's M3 needed more oil and he only has like 6,000 miles on the car.

Just take it to the dealership and they will put in some more oil for you. It will only take a couple of minutes and is completely free.
