My 88 325is speedometer/odometer is no longer working. I'm assuming it has to do with the speed sensor. Can anyone out there advise me where I can find the speed sensor on this car

Yep the speedo sensor is on the back of the rear differential. Not hard to find, the only wires running into it I think.

It might not be that though. The speedos in our cars have a plastic gear inside the mechanism somewhere. Over time they break. You can get a replacement gear for it.

Do a search on this website and you should find some info about the speedos going bad. When one went out on me, I could get it to work sometimes by slapping the dash near the speedo. But after a while that stopped working also.

I say remove your dash take out the speedo replace it the wiring and the sensor, and you'll be good to go...if you don't want to spend all that money/time, just start with the sensor and work your way back, kind of a guess and check procedure, the only problem with this is if its not the sensors or the wires and actually is the speedo, then...you'll have a lot of time money and aggravation, when you could have saved yourself by just doing it all the first time... oh well do what you thinks best.
