i bought a CPO 2002 BMW 330xi last november and am just always anxious as to when i will be needing brakes done and struts replacd. last week had some work done (related to some suspension part) for 500$. I just wnat to know during my CPO warrenty what other expenses I am looking for or can expect. I have 56k on my car and sometiems I wonder if I should have just gone with a new bmw. how long do these cars last? i have always driven japanese cars and never had to think like this before. serviceing BMW is expensive and there is no choice but to go to dealerships. your comments will be greatly appreciated. thx!

[thumb] I've got a 2000 323i with 175,000 miles on it and still going strong. That being said, I've had no problems to speak of from 0 to about 120,000. After 120,000 I've replaced the transmission, clutch, a rear window regulator, the control arm bushings, shocks, springs, struts, A/C Compressor, all three engine pulley's, the battery, the engine automatic cooling fan and two sets of brake pads including one set of rotors. I'm getting about 60,000 per set of tires. Lastly, I got my scheduled tune-up at 100,000 with spark plugs, I get my car to every scheduled maintenance appointment at it's designated 15,000 mile posts and get the oil changed every 7,500 miles with BMW recommended oil. I will look to replace the engine between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. I believe my car worth it at twice the cost. I bought my car in Germany brand spankin new and am the ony owner. That’s my two and a half cents.

That engine just might last longer than 300,000 miles considering it's only 5 years old and well maintained. Have more faith in her, she's been a faithful servant...[thumb]

Also to the CPO 330xi guy, if you bought it CPO why did you have to pay for the repairs? That's one reason why I don't like buying used luxury cars, since it's usually been owned by someone who considered the car expendible and didn't care about it which is why they dump it at low miles. BMWs are very reliable and last long if they've been treated right and maintained. BTW shouldn't the CPO have a maintenance warranty? it sounds like you got shafted unless you paid below blue book.

[thumb] Just one more item of interest concerning the BMW maintenance note. After my car hit the warranty point of no return, I contacted my local BMWCCA chapter. The National Capitol BMW Car Club of America chapter provided a list of club recommended Independent BMW local area service providers. I get all of my bimmer repairs done at my local independents vice the BMW stealerships. It saves me a ton of cash, especially on the labor costs per hour. BTW, thanks BMW 325i 7803, I will look to get 300,000 plus out my present engine... In the words of Buzz Lightyear " To infinity and beyond..."
