Hi,

Just got my 2004 325 CI coupe and having trouble with my bluetooth.
The car has assist but it is not activated and I have a bluetooth ECN, passcode sheet that came with the car.

I cannot pair my v3 razor with the car.
Is there anything special that needs to be done to get this to work?
I have read many threads but they all seem to be related to a scratch install.

What if it is already there? what do I need to do? I do not care about having assist.
How can it be verified that the bluetooth is there? I am assuming I have it because I have the card with the numbers.

Thanks,

When I went to install the BT module I bought, the first step was the BT antenna--which (to my surprise)was already there!!! This was also ONE DAY after I saw a post that cars built after March 2004 had a combo Assist/BT module. You could check for the antenna under the rear ashtray--have to remove a few screws, but not the whole console. If it's there, you could consider ordering just the pairing button. Instructions are in other threads; although some imply you have to totally lift up the console to get to the black bundle of wires, I was able to just remove the cup holders and reach around and with some manipulating free up the bundle. Attach the pairing button; why bother to mount it since you only need it once.

Next try to pair the phone; I may have goofed and went ahead and removed the Assist module and replaced it with my aftermarket BT. You could also get a look at your Assist module (in the trunk; behind the left seat in my Ci) and see if it has a BT logo; since you have a card with a code, there's an excellent chance you may have a combo module. I found my card after the install--I remember asking my SA at delivery about BT and he knew nothing--idiot [?|] .

I digress. As I said, I may not have exactly followed the pairing instructions after just installing the pairing button--like when to hold it and when to let go. Remember to put the phone in search/pair mode, too. The instructions are on line somewhere; I could try to find them if you can't. After installing the BT module and following the pairing instructions, it paired immediately and works great 95+% of the time.

Good luck!

All the way at the bottom are the pairing instructions; I think I didn't let go after turnin the key to ACC, but can't be sure. Part of me wants to put the original module back to see if it works, but why; I don't want Assist, anyway. I will let someone else call 911 when I rollover.

By the way, looking at all the pictures reminded me that getting to the module (removing the trunk liner was a PITA); it may be worth just trying to install the pairing button and see if it works; if it doesn't and you get a BT module, then you can go through the trouble.

The 05's with the combo Assist/BT module do not have a pairing button. The system stays in pairing mode for the first two minutes after the key is turned (I only seemed to get this to work with the key in ACC, not ON). Perhaps you could try turning the key to ACC, and telling your phone to look for BT devices nearby. If it detects something like "BMW034992", you're in luck--you can select it and enter the passcode on your card.

I'm not sure when the modules without the pairing button went into production, but it might be worth a shot...

Good point squarehat (any relation to that sponge guy?). If that works, I'll be really bummed. It really bugged me that someone at the factory decided that cars like mine would have a BT/Assist module and a BT antenna, yet they don't send out any memo to the dealer. I should have searched harder for the card with the BT code, which I found too late. I may have wasted like $500--think how much gas that'd get me now.
