2004 330ci over a 2004 330cic

When I picked up my car today, I should have never looked on the roof top level where they keep new cars. They have a 2004 330ci with absolutely every option offered...including DVD Navigation. There is not one option more this car could have. The day I bought my 2004 cic I went with the intention of getting a 330ci. I am now thinking if I should try and trade my cic for the ci. I am so confused. I love my cic, but the ci is so much more solid. Advice????? [8]

You are suffering from the emotion called remorse. You have done something you wish you hadn't done. IMHO, you will never get over it unless you convince yourself you made the right decision. You will always wonder what it would be like to have that 330ci.

My psychiatric recommendation to you is stick with what you picked, your car is beautiful. Try to think of all the positive reasons you went with the Cic. There is nothing wrong with your car. Lots of Ci owners wonder what it would be like to have the Cic.....me included, but I am not letting it get me to the point where I want to trade mine for one right after I bought it.

BTW I love your car.

remorse is the worse thing. You'll never be satisfied until you own every car with every possible option combination. Trading in your car now would be one of the stupidest decisions ever. One of the main reasons is that once you do (other than the obvious massive financial losses), you'll immediately regret giving up the advantages of a convertible.

Hey there bmwrocks & codex57! Thanks for the responses...I totally appreciate it. You are so both right. I did the same thing when I bought my new MBZ E320. Within a couple of days, I wanted the BMW that I planned on getting (funny enough a 330ci)!!!!!!! :-o

I do love my 04 cic, but I do keep wondering if I would be happier in the coupe. Yeah the BMW cabrio is very quiet, and feels solid...but nothing can compare with a hardtop. Dang, there I go again!!!

Anyway, thanks for the encouraging words. I think a lot of new car owners do experience this "remorse" I'm sure when I take the top down on a beautiful, sunny CA day and drive down Sunset Boulevard here in Hollywood, I will be happy that I got the cic.

Think of it as Nothing compares to a convertible, Because there really is nothing as nice as dropping the top. And I feel it is a very tight car. Keep what you have, you made the right decision the first time.

Deutsch100, I had the same sort of feeling after I took delivery of my 330Cic -- not so much wanting the hardtop, but lusting over other colors and wondering if I made the right selection. Of course, now I'm perfectly satisfied. To your point about the hardtop vs. convertible, I'll bet you'd think the same thing if you had the hardtop. You'd be thinking how nice it would be to have the convertible since you live in an area with such great weather. You're not weird for thinking that way... actually, it makes you normal... one of us! ;-) Enjoy the car man. I'm enjoying mine too.

Hey Bry & jnx!! Thanks for the responses too. Appreciate it. Glad to hear that I am not alone in my "normal remorse". Don't get me wrong, I think our cics are amazing, but just love the lines to the ci. In regards to getting the hardtop (last posting)...I had that on my SL500 and we have that now on our 2003 Z8 Alpina...it is a pain in the ass. Heavy, clumsy and the minute you put it on, you want it off...then vice versa. Looks amazing on.....but PITA.

I guess we always want something we didn't get. I am beginning to believe all these great responses....I made the right choice. Hey in 2 or 3 years I can get the new 3 series coupe (as long as it does not look like the 7, 5 or 6....I like the new models, but I think our 3 series really looks like how a BMW should look!!!!)

Thanks guys!!! I love my 330cic [hihi]

Good luck with your cic. Enjoy it. Everyone should have a convertible at least once. I guess the weight of the removable top is why they have a hoist designed to help put it on and take it off.

I agree about the hardtop being a PITA ;-) I considered that option, but felt EXACTLY as deutsch100 feels... knowing myself the way I do, I'd want the top off in some remote place and would have nowhere to put it. I like the freedom of being able to lower (or raise) the top at a stop light, or wherever. And BMW did such a great job with the seals, etc., that this truly is a "no compromises" convertible. If I lived in a colder climate (like Minnesota or East Coast) I'd probably have opted for the hardtop, and would just put it on in Winter and be done with it. However, being in California, there's really no need (aside from aesthetics). Just not worth the trouble.

I wouldnt trade my CIC for a coupe any day of the week, I would trade the car for a 6 Series Convertible or a M3 convertible.........as I ride around topless almost 10 months out of the year.......nothing better......... [wiggle]

The CIC was our second convertible, I don't possibly ever see us not having a convertible. Even when we travel, we rent a convertible if we are renting a car. I don't even see how a car without a roof that folds down could compare to one that does. I wouldn't want to trade it for the world.

I totally disagree that putting the top on and off is a PITA. You do it what, twice a year? We just took ours off this afternoon. We put a blanket on the ground behind the car. Losen the four latches. Pick the top off and put it on the blanket. Close all the latches, and carry it to it's holder where it will happily rest until November. The only way they could have made it easier would be if they sent two people over (only one is needed to carry it, but takes two to get it on and off without scratching anything) to put it on and take it off.

I'm sure it took longer to type the description then it actually took to remove it.

Hey Cordelli!! It is a PITA because I totally love the way the hardtop looks on, but after a day or two....I want it off. I take it off, then I miss the look of the hardtop!!!! [bash]

Here in Hollywood, CA....one can usually drive topdown about 10-11 months out of the year. So when I put the hardtop on due to a "big storm"(.25 inches of rain :)....the next day it is sunny and 80F and I want the damned thing off again. So here in CA.....it is def, more than 2 times a year dealing with the PITA :)

Out 2003 SL500 did have a big plus...the folding hardtop. Kinda best of both worlds....except for that damned 3 pointed star!!! Have a good weekend!!!

What was wrong with that car?

I drove it once before, and although I didn't like it myself, it was still very nice overall. Just watching the folding hardtop open and close was a great show by itself. My only gripe was that to open/close the top you had to hold the remote button right beside the door. I got a sore thumb after doing it several times.

Well, in your case, it's easy. But you're missing the point. You did say "we" just took ours off this afternoon. It really is a two-person job. I live alone, and have a very small parking space in a shared garage (7 other cars) parking is a premium perk in San Francisco. So, if I had a partner, and that person was flexible enough to trek down to the garage with me to remove / replace the top whenever I wanted -- and if I had someplace to store it, and... well, you get my point. Easy with help, not so easy without (and without room in the garage to store it). And, as both deutsch100 and I have said, we're a bit impetuous at times and would want the top off or on at a moment's notice -- and in both cases we'd be nowhere near home.

I had to scroll back to see where you live, like I don't love my cabrio even in Chicago (50 degrees and the top is down these days). If I could only use it year round..........At least you got the 330; there's definitely a difference compared with the 325. I still toy with the idea of a new or more recent 330 or M3. Anyway, enjoy the cabrio--I know you will. [cheers]

You can do like my husband did for me and have the BEST of *both worlds.......
buy the optional hardtop for your convertible!
I didn't get to drive it very long with the hard top installed, but no one could believe it was just an accessory and not the *real deal. The best reactions were from other 3-series owners who have never seen the unique look, the hard top gives to the convertible.

If you let yourself think about it, you always get remorse. I try to keep my mind away from it. I mean, my car wasn't exactly like how I originally planned on getting. But, I just keep thinking of the advantages rather than the disadvantages. Did that with all my cars. Only way I stayed sane driving my Jeep cuz I hated that car. I got through 7 years of a Civic by reminding myself, "Thank God it's not the Jeep," even tho there are much better cars than a Civic. After enough times, I've convinced myself that the colors and options I did get on the BMW were a better choice than what I originally wanted.

And since you're in CA, just go out, drop that top, and take a cruise. Convertible offers an experience that just can't be replicated in a coupe. I was riding in my friend's Boxster today. Had the top down, enjoying the cool SoCal evening air (cleaner since I was in Irvine), and damn, I wanna get a convertible some time in my life.

Hey there codex57! Yeah you are so right. I had a crappy Civic for years, and even worse a SAAB that I had to go thru a 15 month lemon law process....that car sucked so bad!!!

It is great with the top down. I have my cic car almost 2 months now...and only had the top down 1 time :-o

One major plus in my eyes for having the cabrio....the new 3/4 series is coming out soon, and BMW usually gives the cabrio about 1 more year of life before popping out the new model. So I figure when the new sedan comes out, then the coupe...my cic will still be a "current" model!!!!

Other drivers, when I went to get it in the parking lot Monday after removing it over the weekend, I started getting nervous because I didn't see the car in the lot. Then I saw a car of the same color with a dark blue convertible top, and remembered it's back to a summer car.
