2005 330Ci Convertible --- Hick Up?

Something strange... my new 2005 330Ci Convertible seemed to have a very brief problem. I was doing a little spirited driving... not too hard since the car barely has 1,000 miles. I just wanted to try out the Steptronic shifting. So anyway, right after this when I brought the car to a stop the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. [ohcrap] At the same time the car started sputtering like the timing was way off or something. This totally freaked me out. I shut the car off, restarted it, and everything was right back to normal. This never occurred again and I drove from Atlanta to Nashville, TN and around town (ie: 400+ more miles) and the car seems to be just fine.

Any ideas as to what may have happened? I think maybe it was just an unexplainable fluke. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

So did you guys all try some of the standard wife's tales for hiccup cures? Seriously though, sounds like it has been a fairly common one time event. Keep us posted.

Well, I am glad to hear that there is probably no reason to worry. That is a relief. Especially because my wife just bought a 2005 325Ci Conv. so now we have two of the 3-series (E46) cars.

Lol, I love how paranoid new car owners can be! I was there too at one time.

And Wow, another convertible?

Once you go BMW, you never go back! hehe...

Btw, I had this stuttering problem too but mine occured after one year and apparently my ignition coils were misfiring...whatever that means! It was a quick fix, and it has never happened again.

Yes... another convertible. I know it sounds kind of nuts. I can hardly believe it. My wife really fell in love with my car and decided to get one of her own. I am completely shocked.

My service engine light came on a couple of weeks ago after driving by one of my customers........not that we were going fast, but that he was constantly changing the gears in Manual Mode of Steptronic............the dealer said there was no fault code to check out the problem, but that if it happened again to bring it in.....he said something about the air flow and chugging in manual mode................so laughing

You could certainly buy them from BMW. I would bet they are pricey though. I think the LED tailight is one unit. In other words I don't think you can just put a clear lens on your blinker area in place of the orange lens.

Are there LEDs behind the orange lens? If so, the clear lens version is probably plug and play.

Did you know that TheBry's rear directionals, even though the lens is clear, actually blink orange? The lens is clear. The LEDs themselves are clear when off and orange when on.

The clear corner lights come with the sports package. bmwrocks is right... the rear lights are one unit that include running lights, brake lights, reverse lights and directionals. You should check with your BMW center to get a price quote for the clear set.

I do like the way the LEDs illuminate "amber" instead of the expected white. I guess 2004/2005 coupes and convertibles were the last group of cars to receive this treatment. The new 3-series (E-90) has done away with amber turn indicators all together, and doesn't have LED lights either -- of course only the sedan is available at this time, and the LED option was never available on the Sedan. Maybe the new coupe / convertible will continue the trend in 2007.

Ha. So true. At 138,500 I feel like I've been to the war and back. You gotta roll with the punches...be willing to develop a love/hate relationship. LOL

Just a quick update... the check engine light has never come on again. So... I guess it was just a fluke much like others have experienced. Strange that it seems to be a common thing. I wonder what causes it to happen and then never come back again. Weird. BUT... grateful that it wasn't an issue that required me to do anything.
