just a general question to get a feel of what all you bimmer nuts think out there... i am in the market for a 325ci... i was just looking at the competition from audi and am very impressed... i know that the A4 3.0 is compared against the 330i and not really the 325ci... but just for discussion sake, i thought that i would ask all of you... and the funny thing is that it gives more options for cheaper than bmw... i know that alot of car manufacturers can do that too, e.g. infiniti g35, but audi is 100% bavarian... all the reviews i have read of the A4 say that it is a superb car and tit for tat with the 330i... so for about $3000 less than the 325ci that i want, i can get the A4 3.0 that i want, and it will have more stuff in it, and a bigger engine... so what do you all think?? how does the drive quality/handling compare?? thanks...

If you are going to get an Audi, I would recommend getting the Quattro. I have an A4 1.8t Q and it handles amazingly nice. The turbo engine can be very easily modified with a single chip, intake, and exhaust to pump about the same horsepower as the 3.0l engine.

Can't compete with handling. That's basically BMW's trump card. Reliability is all over the place. You get some people who swear it sucks, others who say it's rock solid. Resale isn't as good as the BMW either but that might not matter too much to some people (like me). The 1.8T like Tom said is much better for modding. Check the stock numbers. Not as good as BMW, but the 1.8T can easily and cheaply be modded to produce soem real good numbers. Oh yeah, and I also agree about getting a quattro. Otherwise you have a fancy front wheel drive jetta.

I fully agree w/Tom,

I really like Audi for its Quattro's, here is my case...the family daily driver right now is Toyota 4-runner, love it ta death honestly.....but we are thinking the replacement will not be an SUV but rather a AWD Sedan with a few nice performance attributes....who do I think of...Audi !!!...yes, in my dreams I think of cars like the AMG E55 etc..(dont we all)

Realistically speaking I think an Audi Quattro may be our next daily driver - I already have a 330 so I dont think I will look at the 330ix..even though I know they are very well liked too.

I am a Bimmer fan, but impressed with some of the Audi's as well.

Good luck with your choice !! post pics too !

you can't compare 330i to the a4 3.0 quatro in terms of speed. w/ the heft of the quatro, the 3.0 felt decidely slow. i didn't want a near 40K slow car ^^ so no quatro for me, but in the practicality stand point, a4 quatros are nice. i was really close to getting a 1.8t quatro before deciding to drop over 10k more for my current ride, and no regrets!! (i actually liked the 1.8t better than the 3.0 oddly enough.

but yea, i like the audis.. just the realibility is a huge question mark, as everyone does have totally different opinions. they are like the yankees and the lakers, you either love em or hate em.

hey tom, where can i get this single chip, intake, and exhaust to pump about the same horsepower as the 3.0l engine?? and what will be the damage for these things?? is installation separate for it?? a good reliable company would be preferred, so that i can put their mod stickers on my car when i am done :) and secondly, how do these mods change the life of the car, it isnt dec. is it? and the warranties are all still in tact??

I've driven both cars, the 325i would be faster than the A4 because of the turbolag and weight.

The APR chips will cost anywhere from $500 to $1,000. APR cat back exhaust is about $1,000 and the LLTEK intake runs around $288.

Like any modifications to your car, if they are linked to a problem then it will void your warranty. The only thing I can think of that my affect your car's life is the chip. And this depends on what type of configuration you go with.

The guys at www.audizine.com may answer your questions a lot better than I can.

so the 325ci would outperfrom an A4 Q even after the mods??? and by the way, do you have a sport package on your audi??
I meant in stock form. When cars are modified, its really hard to tell what is better since it boils down to how much money you put in.

I did wanted the sports suspension, but the only other Silver Audi at the time didn't have the Bose Audio system nor the full options that I wanted. So I settled for a fully loaded A4 1.8t Q with Sport wheels.

If you want the A4, either motors are good. The 1.8T stock is really boring, but with a chip, air intake, and exhaust, it offers similar performance to the 3.0. The 3.0 is a really great engine...loves to rev and really fun to rip up. I strongly getting either with Quattro and the 6-speed gearbox. The Quattro AWD system is really great and that Audi 6-speed gearbox is SUPER smooth, slick, and overally just so enjoyable to shift.
