Hi! I am hoping someone with a 2001-2004 cic can can help me. I have taken my car to the dealer 3 times, and cannot get my problem fixed.

Problem (as minor as it might sound) is driving me nuts. When the top is up, all windows are shut, and the radio is off, or very low there is this rattle, "plasticky" clicking that sounds like it is coming from the rear of the top behind the driver (maybe it is behind the passenger,,,sounds travel so funny). The dealer said it was some cleaning supplies in my trunk...removed them...still the rattle. Then they said it was a seat belt rattling...taped them down...same problem.

Anyone else experience this, know about the problem/cause...know a fix? I cannot drive without the stereo up loud, because the rattle in the rear of the top is so annoying.

Any advice, help is soooo appreciated. Besides this rattle/clicking, I have never driven a quiter, more insulated cabrio....this is what makes the damned noise ever more noticeable [:(!]

325cic/330cic owners...power top help

I had success with the following 2 items on my 330Cic (I have since switched cars).

1) There is a Service advisory to replace or update a rubber gromet on the rear shock mounts, can cause rattles.

2) The power top frame can be re-sealed and there are certain frame areas that can be quieted down with rubber seal material that looks like rubber tubing.

My dealer had great success in quieting the little rattles by doing both of the above, expect a few & expect a few new ones as time goes on, but this is a couple of really good places to start. [thumb]

Thanks. I haven't had a cabrio in a while...last car was the new E320 MBZ....before that drove an SL500...kept the hard top on all the time cause the rattles drove me insane. I kinda figured that the BMW with it's triple insulated top & glass window wouldn't have any rattles...... :-o

Thanks again. If anyone has any more advice, hints or answers....PLEASE send them my way. Help save my sanity!!!!!!!

Well I've had $6632.00 worth of work done to quieten the rattles. I listed them on another thread. Basically, all seals (rear, center, front) were replaced, (2) back windows, back frames on both seats......etc.......one rattle has come back in the last two weeks........it took them on the 4th visit to do all this extra work. Before, they said it was the plastic cooler than happened to be in the back seat that day, other times it was the seals needed cleaning.........good luck........I dont mind taking my car back for service as much as needed, I get a BMW loaner and its centrally located in Houston, so I just keep trying........

OMG...that is so much!!! I have a feeling my dealer is not willing to spend that much time and $ to fix my rattles on an otherwise "perfect" car.

Appreciate the post....Keep em coming guys. I am going to show all these postings to my service advisor & service manager....so any more help is appreciated!!!

Danke Schön [:)]

Yikes! I haven't experienced any rattles yet... but I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to know what to expect. I've only had my car for a few weeks. deutsch100, if you do take it in again let us know the outcome. I can imagine how the sound must be driving you crazy. The car is the quietest cabrio I've owned too (top up).

Thanks. My car is currently at the dealer trying to find & fix this horrible rattle. I appreciate your posting, and everyone elses. I showed my advisor all the responses about the rear shock mounts. He told me that some cars had the problem, and some don't. My car was not on the service advisory to replace the shock mount. I have talked to so many cic owners, and fixing that mount solved the problem.

If my dealer can't/won't fix it, I'll go to another dealer. We have 4 BMW dealers in under a 10 mile radius from my house (one of them ought to be able to do something...I hope [:0] !!!!!

Danke Schön!!!
