325i survey

Hey all you 325 owners....does your motor have a high end lifter clicking/clacking sound to it that can only be heard when under the hood. I have a 2003 with 7k mile on it and was told that the "clicking/clacking noise was normal on the newer 2.5 motors. Do you all think that this is true. please respond
Thanks

Patience is a virtue [joke] There has been some discussion in this forum about noises like you are describing. The ones in the know were saying the clacking is the sound of the fuel injectors. Our engines are very quiet and the injector sound is very loud when compared to the other engine sounds when at idle. I can tell you that the sound scared the hell out of me the first time I popped the hood with the engine running. It sounds like something is banging on the top of the engine (like valves).

I cannot hear it with the hood closed however. The sound is well dampened by the insulation on the inside of the hood I think. If you are hearing it with the hood closed, then maybe it is something to be worried about.

Do this: take it to the dealer and do a side by side comparison with another 325i. Your engine is IDENTICAL to the 2004 model. Let them prove to you that they all do it.

Mine does it.

I'm sure it is fuel injectors, but I would take it to the dealer and play dumb.
Just say there is a clicking noise under the hood, don't mention the injectors and see what they tell you. Also like BMW Rocks said, while our at the dealer service walk to New Cars and compair what you find.

Thanks, it is comforting to know that it is a common sound. I will go to the dealership to confirm that others sound like mine. Again, appreciate the comments
