While at the BMW dealership this morning, I was talking to several guys there about aftermarket mufflers and also inquired about the Performance Package muffler. They said I could also cut part of the top off my stock muffler and remove some baffles to get a throatier exhaust note. Has anyone on here removed any baffles from their stock muffler?

I think you are being given some bum advice. Most stock mufflers are not easily welded as they are made of thin metals. If you want a throatier exhaust note buy a performance muffler.

That's why I figured I'd ask on here. I'm not too familiar with BMWs as most of my attention gets spent on my Nova race car.

I'm just looking for something a little more aggessive than the stock setup. What brands have you had experience with?

Remus, I did not like, rusted through in less than a year and they failed to warranty it, however that said many people here like the Remus and have had good luck with them. I perfer Dinan, Stromberg, Borla, and Supersprint to name a few.

Of the four you mentioned, how would you rank them in order for exhaust note from stock-like to aggressive?

Most likely in the order I listed them, but than again your's and my definition of agressive may differ. Search Google for exahust and some sites have audio/video clips of various exhaust systems.

[bmwdance] I recently replaced my OEM exhaust with the Supersprint Sport Exhaust Dual Round Tips, the sound is smoother and deeper than the original OEM but not too loud. It produces a very rich sound. The biggest difference it that my gas mileage increased visible by a factor of a quarter tank. Just my two and a half cents worth. Happy Motroring...

Thanks! I see you are from Waldorf. My bro-in-law lives in Upper Marlboro and has a sweet bright red 2005 330i w/ Performance Package.

i have been in the same situation with exhaust, i chose borla and i personally think it sounds really aggressive and sporty, but that was just my choice.
Do you have an e46 325? Which Borla setup did you go with?
