Vehicle: 2004 325i Sedan, 45K miles. Purchased 1 month ago, certified pre-owned.
One of the defects I discovered before purchasing my car was a separation of the left side roof molding, just forward of the C-pillar. The molding I'm referring to is hard rubber on my car, and trims the door frame where the doors meet the roof. It is a 3-piece affair, with a seam just forward of the C-pillar, and another just behind the forward roof pillar.
The dealer 'repaired' the molding (apparently not), but the problem has returned.
It seems as if the forward 2 sections of the molding are sliding forward, creating a gap between them and the section that trims the C-pillar. The gap is about 5 mm now, and I think it may have stabilized. I think I can see 2 little 'folds' in the thinnest part of the rubber; it seems to have compressed like an accordian (this can't be seen without looking carefully at the back side of the molding).
Any ideas? I am going to contact the CPO sales manager later this week and come up with a plan.
Thanks,
Kurt
