I have a 95 325i with 160k that just yesterday, in the blazing heat (104 according to the car...in minnesota!) began unexpectadly turning off, with no warning whatsoever. It runs perfectly, as if nothing were wrong, before it quits and after its started again. The fault code readout is 1221, which i beleive to be the oxygen sensor. But, could an O2 sensor cause such behavior, or does that code mean something else? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

For what its worth, it's not that hot here in the UK, but from time o time my 328i used to just cut out but only as I slowed down to stop at traffic lights. This started to become a common ocuurance but since I have had the fault codes cleared and my 02 sensors replaced the car no longer cuts out at all and its been great for about 2 month now.

Generally speaking, if a sensor is not functioning correctly it can have a knock on affect to other sensors etc. I got my 02 sensors OE spec NGK/NTK from for just £60 a piece so thats not too bad.
