Hi guys,

I seem to be getting very poor economy from my 330d auto. Dealers have no idea why, it's had a few EGR valves replaced and 2 new air mass meters as well. Seems to be very somkey under hard acceleration (seen cleaner exhaust from a 20 year old London taxi).

Any ideas?

Many thanks chaps,

John

Hmmm, I drive a 330d manual (2003 model; 204 hp/ 410 nm) and I must say really no problems with the diesel. You're right, it does smoke under hard acceleration but Mercs and Audis do the same, so that's not a big deal. What's you're average fuel economy? On a trip to France (average speed 145 km/h plus some local trips) past summer I did approx 17-18 km/liter. Normally I do approx 14,5 km/liter with city/highway being fifty fifty shared. And since it has a lot of power, I drive fast outside town. I must say that I shift pretty quick in town, since acceleration doesn't make sense in the city. From what I have seen, 330d's have better fuel economy than Audi and Mercedes diesel engines. If you have the older 330d (184 hp), it will probably consume a little bit more than mine because engines do not have the 4-stage fuel injection. Well let me know.
