Good news for 330i owners.

Safest cars, from sedans to SUVs
Consumer Reports publishes its results in five categories:

Upscale and large sedans. The Lexus LS300, the Audi A4 and the BMW 330i topped the charts. The Buick LeSabre Limited and Chrysler 300M came in at the bottom of 14 vehicles tested in this category.

Thats great!

However, I tihnk it is not exactly WHAT you drive but HOW you drive it that plays the major role in driver safety.

You can drive a WW Minibus like a grandma and you will never see an accident or a speeding ticket....... and on the other extreme...... there is me :-/

This is true, but it is reassuring to know that you are in one of the safest cars in the world when you factor in that which you can't control - the other driver.

That is my thinking. Sure cant hurt to be in a safe car.

On a side note, I sure miss Williamsburg this time of year. We would purchase annual passes from the Colonial Williamsburg "Foundation??" and visited often October through December.

Volvo has been one of the safest companies but they have dropped. The 60 ranks number 7 in class now because of marginal injury rates. The same is true for the 40. Neither are listed any longer on federal or Insurance Institute testing because of $$$$ higher injury costs. BMW now beats Volvo on all safety tests. The 80 did hold the number 3 spot for it’s class. Funny how reputations stick though.

It is very confusing to get around at first. Wish I had the $$$$ for one of those homes on the edge of the histroric area. There was one for sale a few years back for like $6 million or something.

It takes a lot of "coin" to live there. [fake]

I like the web site:

Consumer Reports...I don't know, I kind of get the feeling that they are in way over their heads when it comes to cars...they test the dumbest cars that I usually never care about and they say the most retarded things about them. I'm curious as to what vehicles the Consumer Reports car staff own.
And yeah, Volvos are always reliably safe, but for example, there is no way a Volvo S80 is safer than a BMW 5-series. You can ALWAYS count on BMW and Mercedes to produce extremely safe cars, whether the vehicle is a 2-door roadster or a huge-ass SUV.

While that is true Volvo generally makes the safest more affordable cars. Nothing against BMWs or Merc but most of their cars are out of most peoples price range Espically the safest that they make like the 5 and 7 series and S class.

Actually dispite popular belief most any new car with a base price over $27,000 will keep you reasonabally safe its just that some are safer then others or are cheaper to repair. Just cause you own a 'safe' car doesnt mean you arent at risk for death or injury its always best to drive defensively and drive a car that has good handeling and good brakes[thumb]

Craziness of the insurance business...........when I switched from a 2002 Grand Prix GTP to my BMW 330 CIC, my insurance went down $265.00 a year..........I didnt think that made sense due to the price of the car..........but I guess safety counts somewhere.........

I think Volvo has fallen ever since Ford bought them out. Being owned by any US car company can't be too good for you. And I wouldn't call them all that affordable either. Their 240 series is small and expensive for what you get. If I wanted a car that small and that expensive, I would and did buy a BMW.

Then again, all the newer volvos I've sat in had the most comfortable seats. I wanted to rip them out and use them in my living room.

Well, the problem is, Volvo needs to learn how to make their cars look attractive. It's as if Volvo's inspiration comes from a box. Even their new models are just redesigned boxes....they need to get away from that ugly box look. And even their new XC90 SUV just looks too innocent and boxy. Volvo's are for the most boring people on the face of this Earth....whoever owns a Volvo, deserves to own a Volvo (I'm implying that owning one is punishing oneself).
