I have a 2001 330i. Out of the factory that has 225 bhp. I was wonedering if anyone knows of any good mod's to increase the power output of the engine? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Air intake, exhaust, and ECU chip. AEM makes great cold air intakes. Dinan, Borla, and Remus make great exhausts. ASE Chips, Dinan, and I *believe* ESS Tuning has ECU chips. If you ge the ASE Chips ECU, it will boost your horsepower from 225hp to 241hp, all the from the chip alone. Air intake and exhaust will give you marginally better gains.
If you're willing to shell out mad cash, then the easiest solutino is a supercharger. It will cost a lot for the unit itself plus installation, but it will give you mad horsepower. ESS Tuning makes a great 330i supercharger.

Ellusive, Will the ASE chip do anthing for the 330zhp. i heard the zhp chip is already maxed out. Is this true?? Also, why is it that dinan claims they cant get anymore horsepower out of a regualr 330 with a chip. Thanks Ellusive "1st team all forum babey"[wave]

err, I doubt that the ASE chip will provide that big a bump. I'd have to see a dyno slip (no other mods, just the chip) to believe it. Dinan is generally accepted as being not worth the money for what you get. Still, a 16 hp jump on a non-turbo car is quite a jump.

ODM33, I doubt the ASE Chip will do anything for the 330ZHP...I mean, its programming may even hurt it. And on the ASE web site, there is no information on ECU compatibility or support for a 330i ZHP.
Dinan makes weird claims. First they say that they can't any more horsepower out of the 325/330 with ECU tuning. But then they say if you buy their cold air intake and get Stage 1 software download (essentially a remapped ECU), you get 7 more horsepower...what's up with that??? They do the same thing with their exhaust...purchase their exhaust and get the software download and you get like 5 more hp...kind of self-defeating when they just said that they can't get any more power out of the ECU. Generally, when ECU tuning companies re-map an ECU for more horsepower, they basically just change the ignition timing to produce more horse power, but lower fuel economy, and (usually) increased emissions.
What I like about ASE is that they don't just change the ignition timing, they completely re-map the ECU so that fuel economy does not suffer; in some cases, ASE customers have actually noticed fuel economy gains as well as the typical horsepower and torque gains.
