330i ZHP mpg

From what I have been reading, the 330i ZHP should be getting about 21 mpg combined city/hwy. My '04 330i ZHP is averaging only 16.4. Granted, it has only 800 miles on the odometer, and even though I'm still breaking it in (and driving it as gently as recommended) I think I should be getting a lot more mpg than 16.

Any thoughts or mpg stats from any other ZHP owners??[???1]

When you dont reset the mpg recorder the average will never change! Basic math.
In my non-ZHP, stop and go (and I mean STOP signs and lights every 200 yards) I get about 17mpg...but when i cruise on a long street (ca45 mph) I get around 20. Highway, meaning 2 hours at 75+mph, i get 30 mpg. Not to mention I have a pretty heavy FOOT! I think it is optimal to run the car at about 3000rpm fro cruising, unless straight highway when i throw it into 6th gear and it drops to 2500 or so...try resetting it every once in a while....
In the end, the BMW average is about right IMO.

i have an 03 Zhp and im getting 24mpg in mixed in city and freeway driving. i heard that you shouldnt trust the gauge and you should just do the math everytime you gas up. the way you drive can affect your mpg also. i used to shift at 3000, but to save gas, ive been shifting at 2600-2700 rpm which saved me about maybe 2 mpg (according to gauge)

Yeah reset you mpg calc. by holding the button in until it reads - - - . Its still taking avg's from the last time it was reset . Sorry if I'm being redundant . I would guess you'll see alittle improvement after some more break in time.

Mine gets around 16mpg. I'm pretty disappointed with the mileage.

I have 2500 miles on my '04 ZHP and I am getting an overall 20.7mpg. I have varied between a low of 18 and and a high of 25 mpg. These figures are calculated and not readouts.

The car will get better gas mileage after 2,000 miles or so. It is just part of the break-in process of the engine. When you're on the highway, you will get optimal gas mileage when cruising at 65mph (as opposed to 75mph or 55mph).

The calculated method produces close (= or - 1 mpg) but not exactly the readout. I reset the readout after each fill up and have a continously updated log for all fill ups , repairs, mods, etc. Resetting and logging in enables a running overall avg as well as a record for each tankful. Its just a habit I got into many years ago before the readouts came into being. It enabled me to decide when certain maintenance should be done since I do more than the minimum required. It also enabled me to track performance mods on my '89 and the effect on mpg. Watch tire pressure with these 18 inch wheels as well. I raised the front tire pressure from 32 to 36 and the rear from 38 to 39 and picked up 1 mpg. Experiment and see what suits you best. The ride and handling suited me with my combo. However, as you know the biggest affect on mpg is still driving style. As mentioned previously your mileage may also improve with more miles on the car.

I am one of those people who likes to go 70-75 on highways. To keep my speed in check, I have been trying to use better gas mileage as an incentive. 65mph provides the longest cruising range for most cars (all cars are tuned this way).

I thought 55 produced the best mileage.

Anyways, I get about 21 mpg with pretty evenly split btw city and highway. Mileage really didn't seem to get noticeably better with break in for me, but I've heard others who did.
