Hi,

Got my 33oi ZHP with the Steptronic. First time I bought a car with an automatic, and part of the reason I did is because of the manual mode. But here's my problem. It automatically upshifts for me at redline. And when I'm in 1st gear, it doesn't even shift at the 6800 rpm redline, but at 6500. Not only that, but if I'm at full throttle, and I tap it to upshift, it won't do so until it gets to redline (or 6500 rpm in 1st). So:

1) Does anyone else's upshift from 1st to 2nd at 6500?
2) Does anyone know what rpm the fuel cutoff is on the ZHP?
3) Is there any mod I can make so that it won't automatically upshift?

Basically, it seems like you get none of the benefits of the manual. I want the thing to shift when I want it to shift, even if I'm shortshifting at full throttle, and I don't want it to shift, except maybe if it bangs against the fuel cutoff.

Any suggestions? (other than buying a manual)

Unfortunately for you, the transmission is working as designed. There are safety features in the design of the Steptronic that prevent you from damaging the engine or transmission.

Are you familiar with the 'kickdown point'???
When you hit the gas, as you move closer to the floor, there is a point of increased resistance you have to push through to floor it. If you pass the kick down point in manual mode, it will automatically downshift for you. (like you are going 30mph in 5 gear, as long as you don't pass the kickdown point you will stay in 5th)

Yeah, the transmission is just doing what it's supposed to. If you floor it, it will take the car to redline (or in this case, to its maximum shift point). Try letting go of the accelerator when you're flooring it in 1st gear and you want to upshift. That should probably work.
