Recently got a 2001 325i 5 spoeed with 41,000 miles. I'm still getting used to the very responsive steering, and the sweet sound of the 6 cyl. engine revving up through the gears. Cruising at 70 mph on the freeways the engine is at 3000 rpm. This seems kind of excessive, but I figure this is normal for this engine. The tires are Michelin Pilot 205-55/16. Is this a satisfactory rpm for this speed?

Yes, I think so. I had the same reaction when I got my BMW. I was used to a 4cyl camry which you could be doing 75 at slightly above 2000rpms. I am not sure of the reasons, I could give you the reason, but I don't remember it perfectly; I'm sure someone else will chime in. But to put your mind at ease, it's completely satisfactory.

Welcome and Enjoy!
