Hi all -

I am having some issues with my clutch on my 2004 330Ci I have a rattling noise that disappears when the clutch gets pushed down or engaged. I have had it in BMW a few times now and they have replaced the throwout bearing twice and it is still there.

My car is in the shop now and they are now saying it's normal. So I asked the BMW NA guy what it is since it's normal. I figured if it's normal then there should be a mechanical explanation for it. He finally came back and said it's gear rattle.

Has anyone else experienced ay 6 speed clutch issues? I am really frustrated at the way my car sounds.

Thanks!
Felicia

Felicia,

My 2004 330i is in the shop right now. A few weeks back ago the dealership claimed it was the throwout berring so I brought it back to have it fixed this week. They couldn't seem to locate the rattling noise yet again. I kept telling them to take it out on the road and they would hear it. Now they don't think it's a throwout berring but rather just normal transmission gear sounds. I was VERY Persistent in letting them know I wouldn't be coming to pick up the car (or return the loaner) until the rattling was solved. It has rattled since I bought it and been in the shop numerous times for this same problem you're having. Coincidently, the official BMW Service Rep. was visiting the Bellevue, WA shop today after my first call this afternoon with the Service Rep and "they pulled in some favors" and are now going to order a new transmission. I'm supposed to have the car back on Friday. I'll let you know how it goes. I find it really strange that in one call they say its normal and then an hour later after much battling with the Service Rep. they're going to replace it. I think they just don't want to admit guilt and say what's really wrong. I told them I didn't buy a VW Rabbit with a Diesel engine (thus inferring it's cheap sound).
