'84 323i seat height adjuster

My seat height adjusters don't seem to work.
Does anyone know how they work and how to fix them?

as far as im aware on the E30 its just a very very heavy duty spring. thats why you basicly have to stand up (or take most of your weight off the seat) for it to move up. the catch at the side just releases the lock to allow movement. (seams that way on mine anyway!!) cheap to fix but does require removal of the seat.

Must need fixing then. I can't get it to work standing outside the car.

ummm, have you tried pushing/pulling the leaver while pulling the seat up? try it if the seat moves but does not stay then its the spring(s) if not then could be cought on something or even the leaver could have become disconnected! give it a go and if no joy rip the B!tc4 out and chek it over.
