I'm looking at a 93 325is. It's black on black just the way I want it and the price is right but I have to sell this damn VW first. I'm not sure if this one is an automatic or not but I guess i would rather have the 5 speed. I like the way the car looks but I don't know much about it. I've been a VW technician for 12 years. What do I have to know about these early OBD1 cars? I've only worked on a couple. I have the European software for our Modis at work so that should help.

I'm with Dan on this one, what exactly are you asking?

If you are asking, what to look out for the e36 OBD I, I would say the following:

1. Make sure the water pump has been replaced, if pre-1995 (they used plastic impellers). Probably already done.

2. The thermostat may need replacing; I think these fail often on these cars.

3. If it's an automatic, look forward to replacing it after 150k miles. People have mixed luck; some last quite a while, others die anywhere from 120k -- 170k

4. Check if it has been maintained properly and has all the manuals in order.

5. Drive it and listen for rattles / sounds form the suspension

etc

But you're a technician / mechanic, so you should know all this stuff.
