A/C Noise

Hello everyone. Im a newB to the forum. I have a 96 328ic. When I have the a/c on I hear a clanking noise coming from the engine. Anyone know why this is happening?

Is that a clanking noise or a clatter noise? Probably the bearings going out in the compressor/clutch. My car makes an awful clatter noise but still blows cold air. New compressor will solve the problem.

Yes, it still blows cold air but it makes that god awful sound. I will check into that. Thanks alot.

Do you know if you can rebuild the compressor instead of replacing it? Any DIY links to rebuilding it?
Mine has been making that noise ever so often and it drives me nuts; I actually don't use the a/c because that noise drives me nuts. I looked at new / rebuilt ones and I'm too broke to afford one right now, but I would like to get rid of that noise. I couldn't find any write ups on rebuilding; any one know of any?

I dont have any info about rebuilding the compressor or clutch but you might call Hancock Industries 800-289-8282, they might be able to help you.
