A question with Steptronic

I usually drive in Steptronic around my nieghborhod, since it is more exciting to drive, I like the sound the engine makes while downshifting, and I use less of my breaks. A couple of questions, is it safe to downshift to 1st gear at like 20mph, the rpm's go up to 3,000 to 3,500 but I think it all right, am I wrong. Also, do u have to let go of the gas when shifting in steptronic, I always let go off the gas because when I drive stick, you have to let go. It seems weird not to let go, if I didn't let go, it feels like I am still in automatic. Do you have to let go of the gas?

Thanks, Jimmy

P.S. Wish I had a real manual.

no you don't ! but it you want the " simulated manual feel " then go for it . You can drive any way you want to . I wouldn't always make a habit of downshifting hard to save on brakes all the time. You're also putting stress on the transmission to save the brakes. You do the math.

Steptronic is pretty much idiot proof. It won't let you do a money shift even if you tried. Do whatever you want with it and have as much fun as possible.

Steptronic is the best transmission ever designed for drivers who want to alternate between the fun of manual shifting and the real world need for full auto in traffic. You can't break it. Only GM can manage that [fake]
