Is it just me or same to other 04 330ci owners who have this option installed that the Adaptive Headlights switch (turning left) will not turn the ligths on if the outside is not dark enough?

I tried a few times turning the Adaptive lights on during the day and noon and it wonlt turn on while the normal one will by turning right. Whe i try it at night ... it will turn off first time around.

Anyone know if this is true?

Ok, first off, the adaptive feature is enabled only when the switch is in the left AUTO position.

So, that means it has to be dark enough for the lights to come on automatically, therefore adaptive lights are only available when the light sensor turns on the lights.

If you wish to have your lights on during the day, you must put the switch in the rightmost position (which turns off the adaptive functionality).

I can't think of any reason why you would want the adaptive feature enabled unless it was dark enough for the auto-sensor to turn them on.

In other words why would you want the adaptive feature on during the day?

BMW engineers must have thought the same thing.....

Hope this helps.[:D]

mrelussive,

Any moving part has a limited life, but I would guess the servos that move the headlights are designed to last the life of the car, which in the case of a BMW is 20+ years. If you look at it from an engineering standpoint, if you are going to build a system to last virtually forever, you engineer that system in such a way as to make it last as long as possible and to provide the best benefit to the driver.

In the case of the adaptive headlight system, one does not need them during the day as they would give the driver no benefit. So as a designer I would build them into the auto system for at least three reasons: 1. They would only come on in low light situations (when they are actually needed). 2. By doing this you get a longer lasting system for free. 3. Give the driver the versatility to disable them by linking them to the headlight switch position.

BMW engineers are ingenious and give a lot of thought into their designs IMO. I think this is what separates these cars from your everyday automobiles.

BTW, I almost bought the G35 sport coupe and think it is an awesome vehicle and wish I could have bought them both!!

yes, that's what were talking about. As you can see from above, inorder to activate this feature, you need to turn the light to the leftmost position which is the Auto mode

bmwrocks, I see what you're saying about the Adaptive Headlights and it definitely does make sense. As for the G35C, I love this car and I am having an awesome time with it.
