Does anyone know if there is a way to activate or turn on the adaptive xenon feature? In our 4.8is, when the headlight switch is turned to the A setting, the lights come on automatically & the Green LED is illuminated, and then when turning (say thru a canyon or something) you can see the Xenons swivel and follow the road.

In the new M3, there is a green LED, but it will not illuminate and the headlights will not swivel when turning, they stay stationary. The Xenons do come on automatically in the A setting, but the Green LED will not show.

PLEASE if anyone knows how to activate this feature....I would be so grateful. The car is amazing, and I cannot find one thing that I do not like, but now that I know a standard feature is not operating as designed....I am stressing. I cannot bring myself to drop my new M off at the dealer just to activate the Adaptives. Help. Thanks!!!!

From what I understand the M3's bi-xenons don't swivel around corners, I know my 330i's doesn't. The 3 series doesn't have turn-with-the-road Xenons to the best of my knowledge... The green LED indicator means the foglights are on.(if we're talking about the same one it's a squiggly line with a few dots and it illuminates green right?) You can always give the dealer a phone call. Enjoy that M3 [thumb]

I can sleep now tonight, and I answered my own post (a first for me)!!

For some reason the 2005 M3 comes with self-leveling Bi-Xenon but not adaptive Xenons like is offered on the 2004/2005 3 Series coupe/cabrios.

Could this be due to the different steering ratios and steering performance? The M cannot handle the Adaptives??

Anyway...now I don't give a f--k that my green LED is not illuminated...cause it ain't supposed to!!! No need for Mr. Daniels followed by Mr. Valium tonight [thumb] .

Now that I know all is good, does anyone know why 2004/2005 3 Series coupes & cabrios have Adaptive Xenons and M3s don't? Now I am just curious!!!

i heard that there 's a mandate out there that says: every xenon must be able to be calibrated, prolly due to way brighter nature, and if misaligned, could cause more issues for the oncoming driver. most luxury cars have auto leveling as part of the xenon package. my friend's mazda 3 has scrolling 3 selection btns that allows the driver to manually adjust the level of the xenon.

anyway, my guess on the coupes having the adaptives, but not the M3s is the design of the light housing. adaptive xenons came equipped w/ the Ci after the mid 03 face lift. which included a new headlight housing, where as the M3 still uses the (more or less) same lights through out the lifespan. (which i think looks way better, and really makes the car.)

adam, i think you are going through what i call: "i just dropped a ton o money on my new car, and i want everything to be just perfect" syndrome. god knows every one of us goes through it whenever we get the baby that we longed for, and want her to be perfect. while it does go away with time behind the wheel, the more you like the car, longer it'll stay with you.

Yep, everyone is correct here. The M3 has never had the adaptive Xenons feature only the auto-leveling Xenons. This has been the case with all produced (E46). It would be nice, but who's to complain. I love the car....

The post-facelift coupes have adaptive "turn-with-the-road" xenons. However, as Jae pointed out, the M3s do not since they didn't receive the facelift - they still use the early E46 headlight mechanisms that did not have the adaptive feature.
