I noticed that my car is prewired for the homelink system (garage door opener, etc..). Has anybody added one of these to their cars? Who sells them and what was the cost? Include pictures if you have them so we can see how it looks in the interior.

welcome to the board Corey.

it was my only DIY so far, and was simple.

the part was around $170, but if you get it at circlebmw, or pacific bmw? you get 20% off, and no tax, outside of state, (offsets the shipping)

to install: you just have to take the cover off, (the one w/ moonroof switch), disconnect the moon roof connector, and cut along the pre marked square w/ an exacto knife, or something of the sort. find the right connector hanging up on the ceiling, connect it to the universal remote. connect the moon roof switch, snap the cover back on, and you are game!

Thanks for the info. Just ordered from circlebmw. On sale for $135 so can't beat that. Does anyone know if you can still hardwire a radar detector in with the homelink installed. I think I've read you can still splice in but wanted to make sure. Just sent off my Valentine to get upgraded and I'll be hardwiring that in once I get it. Any links to those install instructions would be appreciated. (some of the links in the forum on this subject don't work)...

It depends on what your V1 currently has. Mine was a bit older and had a larger case. I paid $229 but they just gave me a new one with all the hardware. I now have the smallest version with most up to date display and POP radar warning (I got busted a while ago with POP). The new upgrade saved me three times already. Your upgrade may be cheaper, you need to enter the serial number on the site.

yeah, I had an older one also with the larger case and so forth. My upgrade was $189 and they are sending me a brand new one. It depends how old yours is so you'll have to punch in the serial number on the website to get a quote. I'll let you know how the install goes. The Valentine one is best detector out there.

I got the homelink and the Valentine directwire installed. No problems. The new Valentine is smaller than my original one which is nice. Also has the POP protection which I hadn't heard of before but it's already come in handy. Thanks for the feedback all...

Pop is like instant on radar but it uses a shorter burst of radar so it's more difficult to pick up. I've run into it a couple times in Dallas.
