I've had fun modding my 01 Jetta VR6, but it's time to move on.
I need something that will haul stuff and look good. I can't believe I'm considering a wagon, but the 325 sportwagon is cool. I want to mod it too, but nothing crazy.
My question, is there anything in particular to look out for with this model? I'm looking at an auto. It has almost all the options. Is 2wd. Under $20K. 65K miles.
Who are the good sources for aftermarket performance for them and what reasonable things can you do to the 2.5?

Thanks

Go to alldata.com and select 2001 BMW, then select E46 Sport Wagon 2.5L if you want to know about service repairs, reliability, recalls etc... WSU gave you 2 good websites to start with for moding your wagon. I thought you just might want to see if a 2001 wagon was worth buying and modifying.

You will find a VERY comprehensive list of things that have gone wrong with this model. Eventhough the list looks scary and long, it does not mean these recalls and breakdowns have happened to your car in question, or will happen. In general the 3 series, and 325 in particular is one of BMW's most reliable model.

I bought my new 2004 Sports Wagon almost 3 months ago, and I cannot believe I say the words often "I Love my wagon" :)

It hauls a ton of stuff, handles and drives like the sedan and coupe, looks really hot with the Sports Pkg (look at my signature) and at least here in L.A. German sports wagons are the "in" thing in the 18-40 hipster range. BMW and Audi wagons rule the streets here in Hollywood :) :)

Good Luck....you will love it!!!

thanks both of you. I stumbled onto that recall/service log earlier in my information gathering. The list is not that daunting since the Jetta's have a good one too. I am going to test drive the car this week, so we shall see.....
