I am getting ready to spend $1000 to have a Paddle Shift M3 Steering wheel installed in my 330i. The wife found out about it from my Emails and says it's too expensive to do something like that. Now, I don't know if I should have it done or not. What do you guys think? It will put a dent in my wallet but if it is really worth it. I thought it will be fine. Any experience on this?

does your wife appreciate the car as much as you? my dad says hell no to everything i do. but i'm grown, and my nuts are attatched, so i don't listen to what anyone else says. not that i'm implying anything...=) if you're going to appreciate it, go for it. now on the flip side, if she's doing the driving, you're screwed. i'm gonna take a stab in the dark and guess that it's your car. the operative phrase being "your car." of course that may be the reason i can't hold a relationship together. well there's my two cents. go for it

haha, god no. i'm 18, but i've watched enough sit coms...no, just kidding, but come on! it's yours! it's your toy. my friends dad just drives around all day instead of being with his family cuz he's got a porsche...i mean, if you can afford a new 330, you can absorb the cost of other toys, right.

I don't get what you're doing though, are you buying it as an option or are you actually installing it and the car is in your driveway right now? If you're installing it, I wouldn't do it if I were you. $1,000 seems kind of cheap for such a complex mod, so it could potentially bring a lot more problems. But I don't know, I've never had any experience and don't really know how SMG works, unless you're talking steptronic which I don't care for.

His Car.............Their Money...............

First lesson on marriage......what is his is mine, what is mine is mine too...... [:D]

I am really just kidding.......if its really what he wants I say give in......if they cant afford it right now, you shouldnt go against the grain........what is the point of the paddle shift?? That is the main question!!!

So... I just want to let everyone know who the man is in my house [^] . I had my SMG paddle shift M3 Steering wheel installed today by the man himself, Vince. This thing is definitely an awesome upgrade and is worth every penny of me and my wife's money. He put this thing together in around 1.5 hours and everything worked flawlessly. Vince was very kind and could not have done it any better. Steptronic 3 series owners, if you want some more excitement in your beast, this could also be your answer. I just hope my honey never notices it. I got to start practicing my excuse. "Steering? what steering? Oh that? You never notice that M badge before? It got fat? It's been like that all along. That just shows how much you really know me. [hihi]

Would your wife notice if you put it in? It's sorta subtle. Depends on how into cars your wife is. My g/f would notice, but I know lots of girls who wouldn't.

Sorta subtle? the M badge! the fat wheels! the paddleshifts! The colored stitches! I'm praying. I did more driving today and ummmmm ummmm ummm yum yum yum.
I used to drive a stick and if I think I'm driving one as I manage the paddle shift. I don't care what you guys say but to me. This is just as exciting as a stick with the option of traffic convenience steptronic.

Glad to hear you like it. I'm going to get it installed sometime this weekend. As a huge F1 fan, this was part of the price of the car for me. In most other parts of the country I would have gotten the manual 5spd, but if you haven't driven LA traffic you have no idea.

Its great having the so much at finger's reach w/both hands on the wheel -- there's a reason the M3 CSL only comes with this wheel and paddles...

LOL........I sunk plenty of money into my Land Rover.....suspension, tires, rack, lockers, winch, etc. Always catching hell from the ex-wife. Please note the "ex"......

That paddle wheel is cool as hell. One thing I liked about the Lexus IS300 was the wheel mounted shift option (albeit little buttons).
