Just a few comments about some after warranty problems a friend of mine experience after her warranty expired on her 03 325xi.

She took car to a recommended non dealer shop and this is what he found after she complained her her car had a hard time starting in the morning and had no power.

1. 2 oxi sensors were bad.
2. Codes indicated she was hitting on only 4 cyclinders.
3. Look like oil filter was never changes, rubber O ring was crystalized.
4. Front half shaft boot was spewing oil, had to be rebuilt.
5. Air filter looked like it also never had been changed.
6. Car needed tune up., plugs etc.

When she picked up the car, it ran great. The best she said it ran in a long time, it also cost her $2500.00 for parts and labor.

She brought the car for her last service to the dealer about 3 months ago just before she hit 50 K.

Question......How come the dealer did not pick up all the above listed problems. Do we really get the excellent service were promised when we get the 4year 50 K warranties?????????

some techs don't change the o-rings, I always do. air filters typically aren't done until the inspection 2, which is at 60k. the car has 100k plugs and fuel filter, so they probably didn't need to be changed.

warranty won't pay for brakes until the sensor is cut and light is on, that's why they weren't done. someone was probably in a hurry and didn't notice the CV boot. o2 sensors, i don't know about. but hitting on only 4 cylinders? probably from the Bremi ignition coils that were recalled and replaced with Bosch units. the tech probably replaced the coils, and the car ran fine, so he didn't delete the old stored codes in the DME.

just trying to defend the dealerships. sure there are some shady out there, but most of us like me take a lot of pride in our work and fixing folks' cars. if i notice something that needs to be addressed when i'm doing an oil service, i'd fix it.

Hey White94RX.......thanks for your comments, I appreciate that. That was my friend's 03 xi , now I taking my wife's 03 xi in for an oil change (warranty has expired) to the same shop. I know the wife's car is running great with only 31 k on it, so I'm curious to see what he says about her when he changes the oil.

Again thanks for your comments.
