I drive about 100 miles daily. Recently my a/c started acting up...on a typical day I crank up the machine, the a/c comes on and i drive to work ( about 45 minutes ) and home with no problems. Nice and cool. aahhh.
But,if i change my driving to frequent stopping and starting (after 2-3 stops) it is very likely that the a/c will blow cold air thru the driver (left) and passenger (right) vent only and WARM AIR flows thru the center console vents. Then, after parked for several hours it blows cold again thru all vents. ( this started early summer 2004)
Finally, I went to the dealer this week, they evacuated the system and checked for leaks ($149.95) using the sniffer and found none. The system was fully charged (full of refrigerate) at the time of inspection. The tech recommended replacing the *compressor and the drier @ $1,675.00 and said, be thankful it was not the evaporator which is another $1,950.00 repair as the dash has to be removed to reach it. Yikes! But, since the a/c blows cold and vents work now 90% of the time lets wait and see. Don't Panic.
* the tech commented about something internally at the top of the compressor was starting to fail.
