Air pump thumping noise anybody?

I have the following:

2004 330ci
Sports Package
Steptronic

I notice recently that when my car has not been started for a while I hear and feel a thumping noise upon startup. It sometimes persists even after driving a little bit and stopping at a stop sign. I brought my car in to check it out and the service advisor said that they were able to reproduce the problem and told me that it's the air pump and that it is completely normal for my model. Can anybody else confirm that they also experience this? It doesn't do anything to the performance of my car, but it just doesn't seem normal for such a car. Makes me wonder if they just don't want to fix it since it's just a minor problem to them. Hmm...

This is the first I have heard of this. Mine doesn't do this and to my knowledge, no one on here has ever complained of hearing this noise. Seems fishy to me.......

Thanks for verifying my suspicion. Have you ever had to leave your car for a week without starting it up? The problem seems to be much more obvious if it hasn't been startup for a while.

I'm going to be calling a service advisor and let them know.
