Does anybody know how much an alarm system costs for a 3 series? Recently, my 330 zhp has been victum of vandalism. How much work does an installation entail? please help!!!

An BMW alarm is about 400 from the dealer. The alarm I'm looking at is a Compustar Alarm, which comes wiaht a remote starter, and a transponder with a 1/4 mile range. That's about 550, depending on where you go get it done.

You can order an OEM alarm from Circle BMW or Pacific BMW for about $225 shipped, and install it yourself in about an hour. Everything is pre-wired.

Edit: You may need to pay your dealer $40-$50 to have the alarm activated, but some dealers (like mine!) will do it for free.

The regular OEM alarm doesn't have a shock sensor so it's completely useless to deter vandals.

You must be joking..... shock sensor not integrated in OEM alarm? Is the shock sensor offered as an option? The 5 series has an OEM alarm WITH shock sensor as standard. ??

Dunno about the 5 series, but the E46 alarm doesn't come with a shock sensor. It consists of a siren, ultrasonic motion sensor, and a tilt sensor. A shock sensor is not an option because the alarm itself is already an option.

You can buy an aftermarket one like a DEI one and hook up through an aftermarket installer.
