Alarm test

This is the first time I'm testing my alarm since I had my car about a year ago. Somehow I have no success. I assume I have an alarm system since I have an indicator lamp below the rearview mirror continuously flashing when I lock my car. I tried different things like:

-- pressing the compartment remote botton on my key between 2 to 5 seconds (to activate panic mode).
-- waving my hand on an open window after locking. (According to manual, the motion sensor won't function properly when windows aren't completely close but I tried it anyway.)

Is there any other way to test my alarm system? [scratch]

I've tested the alarm by waving my hand in the car with the windows open in my Dad's E60. That set it off. Maybe you should talk to your dealer if you're really unsure.

Just cause you have have the blinking clown nose under the mirror DOESN'T mean you have the alarm system installed. The flashing lights when you lock/unlock and the blinking clown nose are dealer programmable features that don't require the full blown alarm system (siren, tilt sensor, motion sensor).

The way you tested it proves to me you don't have the alarm.

You maybe right but the way I understand it on the manual, I sure do have an alarm system. It specifically said that if the blinking clown nose is "continuously blinking" (and it is in my case), "the system is armed". I might just take my car somewhere to confirm it i guess..... take my car somewhere? brilliant! [cheers]
