I have the unmistakable whirrrr of an alternator bearing going bad. There seems to be an 80 amp and a 140 amp alternator for my '98 323. Is there a way to tell which one I need without removing the old one?
I'd just ring the BMW dealership, give them the vehicle chassis number and then they will be able to tell you if your car is fitted with the 80 or 140amp unit.
u can tell from the part # on the alt.
when i had to replace the alt in my 190e there was 3 different kinds and when i gave the part# it had the correct amps
