An easy one.....What is the shark fin antenna for?

I am sure you guys know. What is that thing for? I see it on the 7-series, new 5 series, and some pics (European??) of the 3 series.

Also, is the back middle headrest also a Euro thing? I don't have one of those in mine.....

The fin is an antenna, but may only be on cars equipped with GPS. That's what my dealer told me when I picked up my '04 325xi last week.

The head rest in the middle of the back seat came with my car also. I think it's now standard on all models.

I have the antenna on my 04 330ci and my dealer said it looks like that because that will be compatible with the satellite radio receivers if you ordered like siruis etc.

My car has GPS and no shark fin.

I know the head rest exists on 4-dr sedans (like 325xi). I have never seen it on 2-dr coupes though.....

Any coupe owners have the middle headrest like in the pic above?

It is just a stylish external antenna. You can purchase a non-functional sharkfin antenna (again, non-functional, so it doesn't do anything, just there for looks in this case) from Bimmian.com for like $40.

I havent read what the new fins are for, but the old ones came with the cellular phone.

I am getting the new V8 S4, and I believe all S4s come with shark fins as well.
Those fins serve as xm or setallite antennas for Audis.
