[wave] My name is Randy and I am the new proud owner of a preowned BMW!
2000 323i. I have lots to read and learn and I figure this will be a good start. Anything that anyone would like to add would be greatly appreciated.
Looking to make lots of changes, but I have to understand what is within my power and what is not!
Here is a picture with more to come in the future as modifications are made.

Welcome aboard Randy, what would you like to know?

Performance or Looks?
I wouuld like to start with the looks and electronic gadgets.
My car is very basic. It appears to be prewired for some things.
Electronics:
Audio upgrades, add navigation, add security system.
Looks:
Wheels/tires and suspension. Would like to know what size wheels/tires without rubbing. Which suspension systems are normally used. ets. If anyone has specifics as well as pictures it would greatly help!
Also, any inexpensive performance upgrades would be nice. [hah]

Here's a good audio link:

Many BMW owners wind up keeping the Head Unit to preserve the appearance of the dashboard. You can add an Alpine MP3 CD Changer, Phatbox, or IPod to the system to enable MP3 capability.

There are a few DIY factory alarms systems sites out there as well. However, keep in mind, the factory alarm does not come with a shock sensor.

Alot of people have had success with the H&R cupkit and Bilstein PSS systems. Check out www.turnermotorsports.com for some flexible packages.

When I get in, I'll post a few more links that I've collected over the past few months. Good luck!

Thanks again for any input. Also if anyone has any take-off (i.e. wheels, etc.) let me know. The wheels I'm looking at will have to come a little later because I don't have the $2,399 right now. That will have to come later.

beware of soft & heavy knock-off wheels

you get what you pay for...
Yes. I believe in quality parts. I meant take-offs as in if someone had changed out their wheels and their original wheels were sitting in their way that I might be interested. I agree....NO knock-offs!
Thanks again!

I've heard mixed reports about K&N filters. Some think they are bad because they let more dirt in. Others swear by them!

Anybody want to follow up this?
That claim could be made for any aftermarket filter. K&N looks a lot better than those simple sponge material ones I see.

"Thousands of micro-scopic cotton threads absorb our specially formulated oil to create a powerful filtering media, that protects your motor from harmful contaminants."

"We manufacture SERIOUS air filters completely unlike traditional disposable filters. Instead of paper, we use 4 to 6 layers of cotton gauze placed between bonded aluminum wire screen. We then apply specially formulated oil to enhance dirt retention and filtering efficiency"

I have a K&N on my Camaro, and it always seems to let a lot of dirt in. Cleaning and oiling them can be a pain too - if you don't put enough oil on, then it doesn't filter out the dirt, and if you put too much on, it will oversaturate the filter - it's hard to tell when you've put the appropriate amount of oil on it.

I'm sticking with a paper filter on my 325 - it's a negligible gain anyways.
