Anybody run hard-wired radar in VA?

I am looking into hardwiring a V1 with Stealth 1 display in my 330. I live in VA and am very much aware of the legal implications but am curious to know how many people out there currently have a permanently installed radar (specifically V1) in their car? I know the tests indicate that the V1 was least detected by VG2 and other various radar detector detectors. I am more paranoid now though because my brother was picked up last weekend for running his older model BEL. The cop was able to pick it up on his detector. I am afraid of hardwiring it on my rear deck "under cover" and then having to rip it out if a cop pulls me over for it. Can anybody share their experience?

This is the install I am most interested in:

Thanks,
Susie

isn't illegal in VA?
if so not worth the trouble, they can tell you have it.
If they can not take it from you they will impound the whole car.

Just my opinion, but I say tak eyour chances with the speeding

If I were in VA, I'd go with the more expensive integrated set from Passport. Stealthier. If a cop pulls you over and is paying attention, he will still notice a hardwired radar detector hanging from the top of a windshield.

I would do the V1 rear deck install with the following display:

(check out the radio read-out)

I currently run a BEL radar detector with VG2, it shuts off when it senses that a cop is using VG2 to detect my detector (what a mouthful!) so it "appears" that I am abiding by the law. I have seen many radar detector tests that product greats results for the V1 when it comes to being detected, it seems second to none. I don't know if it is worth it for me to install the actual V1 on my rear deck under that alarm cover. UGH. I just hate having to tear the suction cups off the windshield whenever I see a cop on the highway = ghetto!
Do I just live in the wrong state? [8]

Anybody else have opinions or recommendations?

Thanks to those of you who have already given theirs.

Thats a pretty sick set up

But I have to ask - whats a nice girl like you looking to go so fast ;)

I can't seem to slow this car down .. no matter if I'm in a 25 (except for school zones), 35, 45, I seem to always be going 60 ! I am more careful on the highway though (which makes no sense) because I try not to break 80. Getting this radar thing figured out will help me decide between ceramic or metallic tint = big difference in price!

I see you're in DC [:X] , do you have a detector?

I have been driving around with my V1 hard wired in my other car for a few weeks. I have been blasted with laser on a 1 lane road in Clifton and was fortunately not stopped. Once I was blasted, I just ripped it out of the window and tucked the cord behind the passenger's visor. I have heard that the max fine is $250. No points. Usual fine is around $85. As far a suctions, you could alway say you used it in MD and they can't prove you didn't. ;)

Susie - great topic. I to live in Virgina and have suffered through this same dilema - to date I have not used a detector - but ther have been times I wish that I had (one ticket alone that resulted in my license being suspended!)...anyway I am alos interested in an integrated/stealth instalation (both for my upcomming 330 and for my S4)...so I will follow this thread closely (wish I could be of help - but I have thus far declined to make the move)..

Virginia troopers can detect your detector. If you don't mind the fine, go for it. Otherwise, you WILL get caught because Virginia wants your money and radar detector fines are a cash cow on the Interstates.

I lived in VA for 15 years before I moved to Texas. [wave] [chair] It was the best thing I ever did.

Don't do it! They will find it, and they will get you!
Your car will be impounded and the radar detector will be ripped out without consideration!
