Assymetrical Winter Tires

I'm looking at buying an 04 330xi with Sports Pkg - comes with 225/45/17 performance tires up front (7.5x17 rims) and 245/40/17s in the back (8.5x17 rims). Any serious disadvantages to running winter tires of different widths on these rims?

I'd rather avoid buying a new set of 17" rims.

Thanks,

I'd highly recommend you reconsider on those rims. I've always had separate winter and summer wheel/tire packages. It makes it so much easier. Also, you won't have to pay the local tire dealer any $ when they do the changeout twice a year.

Sorry I can't assist with your original question.

I posted a thread a while ago about getting winter tires. I decided I would get new rims (16") as well as the tires. My question is, do I need different size tires on the back with winter tires? I need them with my PS2 High Performance, but I was wondering if i could get all the same size for winter tires. Please help

Thanks

go to a bmw center and get snow tire package it includes tires and steel rims with hub caps mounted and balenced just throw them on and go come spring pop your good rims and rubber back on and store the snows for next year

Not a bad option, but when I looked into doing this last year, it was WAY less expensive to get a 16" snow tire package from TireRack. Plus, I was able to get alloy rims instead of the fugly steel ones!
