Tired of waiting on BMW of Austin to get the IPOD adaptor part in (going on months now!!! [:(!] ) so I'm going with the AUX Audio cord. I know the cost is about $40.00... but the installation is $120.00. Does anyone know of a thread or a webpage that gives step by step instructions for installing this cord so that I don't have to waste $120.00 bucks!?!?!
[idea]

Thanks!!!

That's a great find. I think you need special tools to get the radio out, part of the anti-theft engineering. There have got to be instructions somewhere on the internet......

Let me know how you do! I am looking to add Sirius radio to the premium HK system and the last thing I want is another deck in my car. It would be a sweet deal if the the Satellite receiver (hidden) would just interface like magic and be done with it.
Good luck!! [thumb]

I have seen a technician removed the radio. He used a plastic spatula (similar to a flat screwdriver) to prise off the walnut wood-like panel above the passenger side console box (or is it call glove box). The panel is attached with four plugs vertically into the console. Once this panel is off, the panel next to it, above the radio, can be lifted out. Now you can see the two screws holding the radio.

I'm not sure if you are heart set on Sirius radio, jrahn...but there is a XM Radio interface that can plug into your pre-installed CD Changer harness. It even interfaces with the CD RADIO so you can have on screen info. Not sure if it gives you steering wheel control though. It's made by Blitzsafe.

Subsilver,

I had the AUX cable installed at the time I took delivery and absolutely LOVE my set-up. I've got an iPod dedicated for my car -- only pull it out to add new music and rearrange playlists, etc. I'm using a wireless RF remote to control it from the ashtray. One word of warning -- the AUX port should not be plugged into the headphone jack of the iPod. If you have a 3 or 4G iPod, use the real audio-out port (the jack at the bottom).

Hit me up if you have questions. You'll love it.

I am kinda comitted to Sirius (already subscribed for up to 3 units) I'll have to poke around a bit. I have asked at the dealer but the default answer is of course a very expensive unit exclusive to the BMW system... blah blah blah.
