I assume that having to pull the door handle twice is standard on all BMW's. Is there a way that the dealer can enable the car to unlock the doors when I put the car back into park?

It seems to be smart enough to lock them but fails at unlocking them.

I dont think that's an option with the E46. I had that only because I installed an aftermarket alarm system.

It is not me that I am worried about :)

It is everyone else who has never owned a bmw that rides in my car. They sit there waiting for me to unlock the doors because no one ever thinks that if they try to pull it again that it just might work.

What is the thought behind the double pull any way?

Child safety. Or that hitch hiker trying to escape. Either way it helps keep them both in.

Usually when someone rides with me and tries to exit, they pull and nothing happens, then they look at me and I say "okay, now try it again." and it works and they think I did something. Makes me look like a hero everytime.

I like the standardization of them. When someone new tries the door on the first try and then look at me, I say, I just wanted to keep you a little longer and a little safer. After the same people have not remembered after a few times being in the car and pull once and then look at me again, I say don't you feel like a dumbass, how many times do we have to rehearse.
