I've got a 2004 325i. According to page 54 of the manual "How far the passenger mirror tilts can be set individually for each ignition key" accompanied by the symbol for "Vehicle Memory, Key Memory". Since the default amount of travel makes the feature useless, imho, during a service visit, to the dealer where I purchased, I requested it be changed per page 54. I was told that the manual was wrong. Yesterday I got the car back, from another dealer closer to my home, having brought it in for the coil recall and several other little things that have gone wrong. They couldn't figure out how to handle the change and said I was the first one to ever bring it up. At least they spent a lot of time scratching their heads and said they would try to research it further.

I said I'd ask the real experts. So, can anyone point me to something I can show to them?

Thanks,
Barry

My manual syas the same thing, although I haven't found the position to be useful or un-useful as I never use it. Seems like they should be able to do it though. Can't imagine you are the only one in the world to request this.

Passenger-side exterior mirror tilt
function
Automatic curb monitor*
1. Move mirror selector switch 1 to the
driver's mirror position
2. When shifting into Reverse, or placing
the selector lever in position R,
the passenger-side mirror tilts downward
to help the driver monitor the
area directly adjacent to the vehicle
during parking – curbs, etc.
How far the passenger mirror tilts
can be set individually for each
ignition key.<

You can deactivate this automatic feature
by setting the mirror selection
switch to the passenger side position.

Got the answer

And the answer is here, or even better here .

For some reason this seems generally not to be known by service departments. From my service record - "Per foreman, tilt functions are only adjustable via GT-1, not able to be performed by customer." It was the foreman that was sitting in my car playing with it for a long time.
