Does anyone have one of the rearview mirrors shown in the Accessories catalog which shows a compass direction in LED in a corner of the mirror? I'm wondering if this is an easy item to install if you have the auto dimming feature? Also, is one available that includes the BMW Assist SOS and Roadside Assistance buttons in the bottom of the mirror?

In the U.S. there is a catalog of Accessories which is available from a BMW dealer. I haven't found a web site for accessories, but some of the online dealers parts dept. shows some of the accessories. One such site is Circle BMW (http://www.circlebmw.com/).

I have the navigation system, but it doesn't give a simple compass reading, and the compass reading is not displayed with the onboard computer. This accessory rearview mirror has an LED display in the upper right corner of the mirror that shows which direction you're facing (N, NW, W, etc.).

Yes I have to say that is the stupidest thing about the nav system. No heading value on the main screen. They leave it up to you to figure it out when the map is displayed. Which isn't too hard for general direction, but far from exact. No way in hell you could tell while displaying just directions.

Although you do have your current position when not guiding and split screen (northing, easting format). Even down to the second (2 digit integer)!!! Not very useful though.....

Conversation with spouse "Where are you honey, I thought you would be here a half hour ago." "Well I'm at 18 degrees, 24 minutes, 18 seconds North and 36 degrees, 45 minutes, 23 seconds West......so figure out from that when I'll be home".

And of course you can enter "Emergency" mode and see your heading in degrees, constantly updated.

Right. When you first select "emergency" it does show your heading below the latitude and longitude values, in other words, it does show a simple compass heading. But, I'd rather not have to go to the emergency screen to get a simple direction. I may not have the nav system on! I had a Land Rover loaner that had the compass rearview mirror and it was really handy. Circle BMW does have these mirrors, but you have to search for it. And, I'm not sure if one is available for cars equipped with the rain sensor, auto dimmer, AND the SOS switch in the mirror? It would have been so simple to include direction in the on-board computer display, yeah?
