Does anyone know what the average life of the front brake pads are. I have this slight grinding when coming to a stop every now and then. The car only has 20k on it, seems early for the brakes, but each manufacture is different. [headbang]

when ur brakes go out, the brake sensor should come on.

when my car was new, my first brake change was around 40k miles. but, back then my commute wasn't as bad. nowadays my front brake pads last about 20K 'cuz my commute to/ from work is about 40 miles a day...

Sometimes the discs collect rust (from when it rains), and that will make
a "grinding" noise, which goes away after a few high-speed stops.

Since your grinding occurs "every now and then" and is not constant, you
probably have more life in the discs, and it could be rust.

If your brakes wear unevenly you need to lubricate the caliper guide bolts, they should wear evenly. Another thing, if you got grinding you will need new rotors as well as the pads. Best of luck to you.

This is my wife's car, and I seem to be never able to duplicate the problems. I apparently isn't the brakes. After the car warms up and drives, there appears to be some grinding noise when she turns. I guess I will just have to give her my car and I can drive the rocket...

There is nothing like taking the wheels off and looking for yourself at the pads ! You can see how much thickness is left on the pads as well as wear comparison from side to side or even inboard to outboard on the same caliper......... you can also get a good look and feel on the rotors themselves.

If you are like me, you try to perform as much maintenance and repair as possible to make ownership as enjoyable as possible (<$) !
