Just got my 330 pp in october (LOVE IT TO DEATH). The car has Bridgestone Potenza's and they are mixed performance and all season tires. When its cold out i get no traction. Now im not talking about snow, im just talking cold weather. I drive my car fairly hard and im sure this has allot to do with it. When i accelerate hard in 1st and sometimes even 2nd gear, my stablilty contorl goes buck wild. My old car was a 323i and i never had this problem. Whats up? I didnt think that 65 horsepower would have made that much of a differnce. Should i just buy MAX Perfromance Tires the next time? ALso, i only have 235 Hp i feel bad for these guys rollin around in there 911 twin turbos. Im just upset becuase i wanna get the Max potential out of my car and im affraid im going to have to wait till summer. [?|]

I know that BMWs headed for Souther delievery are equipped with Pilot Sports. Any feed back on the Pilot Sports?? [wave]
How do you know that? That's great if true because I have a 330i ZHP being built this week and I was hoping to get Pilot Sports. I live in Alabama so that's pretty far south!

ODM33...What you are saying just does not sound right. We get cold weather here and below freezing temps. 20-30 days each winter, we also had snow one day and more rain than usual.

When I drive my car if feels like it is on tracks, I was even concerned about RWD in the rain and so on and I mean this car is glued to the road.

I had an MB coupe on my @ss last night on my way home until we hit the curve of the on-ramp, he quickly fell 3 cars back. He appeared to struggle; I did not feel any breaking away.

Have you thought about talking to the dealer?

the high perf summer tires, which potenza re40s are, become really really hard once temp starts to go south. because they are meant to grip in high temp situations, they aren't all that great in the cold. imagine a hard puck and i'd say that's your tire in the sub zeros.

i dun know where hagerstown is, but if it's anywhere near snowbelt, i suggest getting snows. they are nice, because their operating temp is much lower than that of ultra summers'. only problem is, when it gets to be 60s, 70s, tires might actually start melting.. so you go figure.

i wish i got the pilots on mine, but it didnt' work out. the other zhp that got picked up ahead of me had pilots on.. [:(] they say that whatever tires they have on hand during production is what they use. (seems they pre qualify different brands, and use them, rather than just picking one brand.)

I'm in AZ and got the pilot sports.. they grip really well... I can't break traction very easily.. if I take traction control off and floor it in first (with clutch already fully engaged) I can't break traction.. although I'm not sure if it's the tires being really grippy or if I got a weak engine.. cause it seems like my ZHP is slower than my old e36 328.. although my 328 was pretty well modded..

I have Pilot Sports and I live in NJ where temperatures have been 0 degrees to 40 degrees F this winter. When temperatures are below 35 degrees, the Pilot Sports are absolutely terrible on dry roads. In sub-10 degree weather, I can spin the tires at 2K rpm in 1st gear. The tires just do not warm up so they do not stick properly at all...in fact, I have had several experiences with the Pilot Sports in the cold weather that have flat out scared the shit out of me. Needless to say, I will be purchasing a set of snow tires for next winter...at least I will be able to drive safely in the cold weather !!
Just so you all know, Max Performance Summer Tires are designed for temperatures of 40 degrees Fahrenheit and higher. These past few days we have been lucky and gotten like 44 degree weather during the day, and I have noticed that the Pilot Sports grip the road comfortably in these temperatures...but as soon as the sun goes down and it's 35 degrees or less outside, it's back to poopy traction. Nothing dangerous really...I just can't take the turns as hard, I can't go full throttle in first gear, and I can't accelerate through the turns (rear wheels break loose).
