According to a source at BMW HQ in Munich, word has it that Bangle will stay for the Global launch of the 1 Series this autumn, before declaring that his daring brand rethink is complete and that the time has come for a new design boss to take over.

His influence is slipping as, apparently, the re-engineered and facelifted X5 was originaly destined to sport a new nose with radically angled headlamps, not unlike those fitted to the new 5 series.

One insider said he saw the finnished model 2 years ago, but by the time the car was unveiled at last September's Frankfurt Motor Show the adventurous look had been mysteriously dropped in favour of a more conservative style. This suggested that some in the BMW hierarchy aren't happy.

It's time for him to retire - BMW makes their folks retire at 60 I believe. Lucky us?

It'll be a few years before we see designs from the next guy that gets the job. It's bangle for 5 more years in the BMW showroom.

In terms of overall body design, yeah, it will be 4 or 5 years. But they can make improvements to things like headlights, grills, trunk lids at any time and roll it out in a model year change. Just changing the trunk lid and headlight/fender cut on the new 5 series could really de-BangleMangle that car. Sometimes simple cosmetic changes make a huge difference.

Repairs needed:
--------------------

-Facelift the new 5er, its the absolute ugliest !!, Butt ugly is accurate, after such a beauty
before...sigh!.

-Mild facelift on the 7 series, not as bad as the 5.

-Fix the Cadillac trunk on the 6 series.

-I like the new Z4, maybe mild smoothing of side body lines.

-I like the spy shots of the new 3.

Its fixable if BMW acts soon enough [thumb]

I dunno, the trunks on all the Bangle cars is pretty hard to repair. They need to fix the interior of the 5 too. It doesn't have to be luxe, but the word luxury should at least pop into the mind.

Good news. I hope Bangle is definitely gone.

Hopefully someone can get BMW back on track, and this ugly
design phase will be but a bad memory in 3-4 years...
