Out of the blue, my battery is dead. I know the dealer has a replacement for $125, but is there another battery I can install? Any suggestions?
I have a '99 323i. Not sure if I need to replace the original battery with a BMW battery. I know this is basic stuff, no flaming please.

I feel ya dude... I just replaced my battery after six years of faithful service. I went to an independent bimmer service provider in the D.C. Metor area and paid about the same price as at the local stealerships would of charged me. The battery was $143.00, the total including installation and taxes was $202.00. I suppose I could of gone to Autozone, but I wanted to stay with a BMW battery replacement for my ride. I hope going the Autozone route or whichever route you choose works out. Let me know if the battery is just as good.
